Six Circle Project

Based in South Perth, on the Edinburgh Road, Perth Six Circle Project is a local charity which works with people who are at risk of social exclusion in the Perth locality. This includes people experiencing mental health issues and the long-term unemployed.

The Project is open 3 days per week, offering a range of opportunities for individuals to develop their skills, so they are fully able to participate in their community. Indeed, theSix Circle ethos is encapsulated in the phrase, ‘In meeting the needs of others, we meet the needs in ourselves’.

Our Independent Living Skills programme, run on a Tuesday, gives individuals the opportunity to learn how to cook healthy meals fromscratch and how to manage on a budget, as well as covering a range of topics in our weekly workshops. Topics we have explored this year include, assertiveness skills, a practical music session, ceramic art and Spanish and Scottish culture.

Each Wednesday, service users participate in a Community Jobs Programme. Offering their services to people who may have difficulty with practical jobs, such as older people, lone parents and people with disabilities, the group carry out a range of tasks, such as, gardening, clutter clearance and painting of outdoor structures/fences.

On Thursdays, our Health & Wellbeing Programme encourages service users to participate in a range of community leisure activities such as swimming, badminton, cycling and going to the gym. This helps decrease stress levels, improve physical fitness and support with weight loss.

If you, or someone you know, requires a day of practical help with any of the above tasks, you are interested in becoming a volunteer or you would like to join the Project, then please give Perth Six Circle Project a phone. The Project is open 9-4.30pm, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Darnhall Tennis Club

Darnhall Tennis Club is  located in  Orchard Place (off Murray Crescent) in the Craigie area of Perth (for those with satnav-PH2 0HS). We have four concrete courts available on most days and evenings for the public to play on. (Adults £1.50 per half hour, £1 per child , free to members). We are in the course of rebuilding almost every part of the club. We are moving the process forward to rebuild three of the courts with a new all weather surface to enable tennis to be played all year round. The current playing season is March to end of October (because of the old style concrete courts). Coaching has been available with assistance from Jane Morrison (from Kinnoull T.C) and Douglas Gibson (from Scone T.C). However we are delighted to have with us Olivia Paisley who is now Darnhall's resident coach. Olivia and Darnhall T.C are striving to increase the amount of tennis played at Darnhall. It is worth remembering that Tennis should be played for FUN! Don't be put off by thinking "I'm not good enough". It is amazing how quickly rallies can be increased from a couple of hits to a dozen hits with just a little advice- and by using the right type of ball! By the way , not only will Ollie be taking classes at Darnhall, she is also available for one-to-one tuition.

Moncreiffe Primary School News July 2011

P5,6 &7 were filmed by Learning & Teaching Scotland during and after their recent open day showcasing their interdisciplinary work on the theme “Scots on Top”. This film will be put on the HMIE Journey to Excellence website as an example of excellent practice in Scottish schools.

The Eco Council had a great time planting out fruit trees supplied by the Perth 800 Orchard scheme.  They put in a good mixture of apple, pear and plum saplings.

We had three full teams entered for this year’s Scottish National Cross Country Championships at Kirkcaldy High School, whilst Dylan Sclater (P6) ran on his own in that category!  It was a dreich day that Saturday but the      children enjoyed the experience nonetheless, despite returning home empty handed !

We had a team of athletes enter the first ever County Sports held at Perth High School . Taryn Carr (P6) won the girls’ 80m race. Ellie Williams (P7) won the girls’ 800m race and Cameron Ogg won the boys’ shot putt. Cameron, Taryn and Ellie now go forward to represent the Perth High School Cluster at the Perth and Kinross County Sports in June.  We also had several silver medal winners.
